Thiago Carfi

I am an automotive designer with over fifteen years in the industry, working continuously since 2010 and at Volkswagen since 2012. My work spans production cars, concepts, facelifts, and mobility projects developed for the USA, Europe, Brazil, and extensively for China, carried from early design through to series production.

I come from a hands-on background, developing full vehicles, key exterior themes, and critical design elements while balancing engineering, cost, timing, and brand reality. Clean-sheet programs and complex updates shaped a design approach built on clarity, restraint, and confidence rather than noise.

Alongside design execution, my role has gradually expanded toward leadership and strategy. I have guided small teams, coordinated across disciplines, and helped align design vision with technical and organizational realities. This progression has been organic, driven by trust, responsibility, and results rather than titles.
Since October 2024, I have been Design Manager at Volkswagen Design Center California, leading a small Exterior, 3D, and Clay team and contributing to regional design strategy and early product definition.

I believe strong automotive design should read instantly, age well, and carry intent without explanation. I am driven by roles where design leadership means shaping products, teams, and direction with rigor, taste, and purpose.
